Creation of the 50 Goldback
When the Goldback was first conceptualized it was important to know the range of denominations that would be used. The 1 Goldback was absolutely key but the highest denomination was a bit of a mystery. The most gold that Valaurum had ever printed using this technology was 1 gram and that had been just the year before.
To give some context, Valaurum has had this technology for two decades and it took that long for a 1 gram product to become feasible. In asking for 1/20th of an ounce of gold we were basically asking for 40% more gold than had ever been done. It would be like asking for a 1,400 ft tall building if the tallest in the world were 1,000 ft tall and had been just built.
Valaurum took up the challenge and began developing the 50. Due to the amount of gold in it, the 50 needed to be at least 7 1/8ths of an inch tall and 3 inches wide while the rest of the Goldback denominations are shorter and are only 2.57 inches wide. This is part of the reason why each Goldback denomination is a different size.
The 50 has four separate layers of gold overlaid atop each other with different tensions levels. The different tension levels work against each other to help make the coin stable. It is truly an engineering marvel.
The 50 Goldback can be purchased alongside the other Goldback denominations in the 200 Goldback starter pack. The starter pack is available for pre-sale through the United Precious Metals Association by telephone 888-210-8488.
Each pack includes . . .
• One 50 Goldback | • Nine 5 Goldbacks |
• One 25 Goldback | • Forty 1 Goldbacks |
• Four 10 Goldback |
It is more than likely, that the 50 Goldback will be the largest denomination ever designed to circulate.
