What does a million dollars worth of goldbacks look like?

Last summer we thought it would be fun to film what a million dollars worth of U.S. Gold Eagles looked like and compare that against Goldbacks.

In the video only about a quarter of the face value is in the ‘one’ denomination with the remaining three quarters being in ‘fives’, ‘tens’, ‘twenty-fives’, and ‘fifties’. If the entire amount was in ‘ones’ then the pile would be about three times larger!

Many people own gold coins “just in case”. What they fail to realize is that those same coins don’t carry very much utility when it comes to bartering. This video is an impressive visual display of just what the difference between owning Goldbacks and coins looks like in terms of having a useful form of money.

We sat on this footage for about nine months, sales were so tight already that we had stopped producing new content. You’ll notice that there are no Wyomings in the pile.
