What Are Alpha Goldbacks? Here’s What You Need to Know
Written by Jeremy Cordon, Founder & CEO of Goldback Inc.
You may have heard the term “Alpha Goldback” and wondered what it means. Simply put, Alpha Goldbacks are the first Goldbacks produced in a new series. These limited-edition Goldbacks feature a small α (alpha) symbol next to the mintage date, distinguishing them from regular Goldbacks.
A Limited-Time Release
Alpha Goldbacks are exclusively produced before a series’ official release date. For the upcoming Florida series, all Goldbacks made before January 15, 2025, will carry the alpha symbol. After this date, regular Florida Goldbacks will enter production without the symbol.
If you’re purchasing Florida Goldbacks before April 2025, there’s a high likelihood they’re Alpha Goldbacks, as non-alpha versions won’t yet be available.
Why Alpha Goldbacks Matter
Alpha Goldbacks are a special reward for those adopting a new series early. Due to their limited production, Alpha Goldbacks may hold long-term collectible value. Each one is a unique piece of Goldback history.
What’s more, Alpha Goldbacks sometimes feature early design choices that change post-release. For example, the Florida Alpha Goldbacks include coral pink accents on the 1 denomination. Based on early user feedback, the non-alpha versions will return to the original color scheme, making the Alpha Goldbacks even more distinctive for collectors.
The Takeaway
Alpha Goldbacks mark an exciting first chapter for every new series. Whether you’re a collector or simply a Goldback enthusiast, these limited-edition pieces capture the evolution of each series and offer a tangible way to commemorate its launch.
Keep an eye out for the α symbol—these Goldbacks are unique, memorable, and here for a limited time only.
